Nodaway Valley Historical Museum to Reopen | News

(Clarinda) – After passing the one-year mark on the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Nodaway Valley Historical Museum is set to reopen.

The Nodaway Valley Historical Museum in Clarinda reopens on Saturday after a long shutdown with the pandemic. Museum curator Trish Bergren appeared on KMA’s AM show Monday morning and explained the reason for the long shutdown.

“Most of our volunteers are 75 and over, it’s this population that you need to watch so closely with what happened last year,” said Bergren. “We were really, really careful, but we’re very excited to open this weekend.”

This reopening was made possible by an Iowa Arts and Culture Recovery Grant awarded to the museum in December. Governor Kim Reynolds has allocated $ 7 million from the CARES Act to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. The museum was fortunate to obtain part of this funding.

“It was a wonderful treat and it propelled us into the first of the year. It allowed us to start getting everything ready for the opening as soon as we could, as soon as it was safe, ”said Bergren.

The museum will be open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Masks and social distancing will be required, and sanitation stations will be set up throughout the museum.

“We’re the Page County Museum, so there are artifacts from all over the county. We literally have artifacts that date back to 1853 or before, ”Bergren said. “History rolls around every week that we’re here, whether it’s a cheerleader outfit from 10 years ago or a family bible that was just discovered in an attic. Thanks to the wonderful donations here, we are able to continue to archive this unique Page County story. “

The museum is located at 1600 South 16th Street in Clarinda. For any questions, you can call 712-542-3073. To hear Trish Bergren’s full interview, click below.
